TOKYO, Oct 17 (Reuters) – Quarterly pricing talks between Japanese aluminium buyers and global producers have stretched unusually long as both struggle to close a wide gap on primary metal shipments for October to December, three sources directly involved in the talks said.

Japan is a major Asian importer of the metal and the premiums it agrees to pay each quarter over the London Metal Exchange (LME) cash price set a regional benchmark, but it is unusual for talks to stretch weeks past the quarter’s start.
